Cherry Blossoms | Iwakuni, Japan
It’s officially been 1 year since we moved to Japan! Last April, our flight landed in Osaka where we got to see cherry blossoms at the Osaka Castle on our very first day in Japan. This is the first year we got to see them in our home in Iwakuni and they were an amazing experience.
For days leading up to their bloom, people go out to check their progress. Each day there are a few more blossoms open until the whole city is alive with excitement and beauty. Everyone goes out to picnic under the blossoms and they claim their spots with tarps and blankets early in the morning. The blossoms themselves are as magical as they are made out to be. The whole city is brighter with little white popcorn balls adorning and contrasting against the dark branches of the cherry blossom trees. This year, my job got me underneath them almost every single day and I got to take pictures that people will have forever, a memory of their adventure to Japan and the years they spent here. You don’t need a reason to get pictures taken but the cherry blossoms are certainly a good one. Here are some of my favorite photos from this year under the blossoms.
